Hi, I’m Amara

I write contemporary, own-voice YA fiction and am equal parts terrified and fascinated by internet culture. So, I write about it, and weave my own experiences with identity and perception in there too. I also visit schools around the UK delivering talks and workshops on these topics.

After completing my BA in Creative Writing, I went on to earn a distinction in my masters’ for Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. It was on this course that I wrote the early drafts of my first novel, Influential.

I live in - and will never leave - my hometown of Bristol with my husband, Barney, who makes music from another planet, our wonderful son, Zephyr, and our two aptly-named dogs, Albert and Desmond. When not writing, you can find me desperately seeking yogic calm from a YouTube video, air frying something, walking in the woods, overanalysing reality TV, or doing general stay-at-home parent things while filling my ears with podcasts and audio dramas (when my child is otherwise occupied, ofc). I also advocate for the chronic, iatrogenic condition, Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) online.
